Sermon Short for January 12th, 2020
Who is Jesus?
Matthew 3:13-17, Isaiah 42:1-9
The Lectionary wants us to consider Christ’s baptism this Sunday. It gets me to thinking – Why does Jesus need baptizing? Who is this guy, anyway?
Over the two millennia since then countless wise people have offered their answers to that question. Larry Norman put out a song in 1972, Outlaw, in which he repeated “some say … some say … He was an outlaw, a poet, a sorcerer, a man of mystery, a politician. But Larry wraps it up with:
Some say he was the Son of God, a man above all men
And that’s who I believe he is ’cause that’s what I believe.
