Sermon Short for July 22nd, 2018 – Gale – the perfect church!

Colossians 3:12-14, Matthew 13:24-32

Having spent 150 years in this town one would think that Gale Presbyterian Church would have it all figured out by now. We should be the perfect church because we’ve had so many decades to learn from our mistakes. Well – maybe not. Where can we find any church that’s perfect? Or a school or a government or a family for that matter? What is perfection anyway? Is it some ideal image we have of the way things should be? We don’t know what that is because I’m sure we’ve never seen it. And whenever we try to reach it together we find out we all have different versions of what it even is.

God seems to accept a degree of imperfection in his garden. While striving and failing to be perfect, God continues to love and accept us – as souls and as communities of Christ. It is God’s way to accept imperfection. Is it our way to do likewise?
