SERMON SHORT FOR OCTOBER 11th

A CELEBRATION OF DISCIPLINE – FASTING

Isaiah 58:1-7, Luke 4:1-13

Honestly, it is purely coincidence that the discipline of fasting shows up in our schedule on Thanksgiving Sunday. But the coincidence is so fitting for the Thanksgiving that occurs in the midst of COVID-19; a Thanksgiving Sunday that will be meagre in the way of gathering and activities and socializing. All of our experts are strongly recommending that we keep this year’s holiday small.

Fasting is about sacrifice. But we don’t just give up food. We use the fasting time to focus on God. We pray. We meditate. We reflect. This year, we may not be completely giving up food for Thanksgiving but we are giving up some things for the health of our family and community.

As we fast from our socializing let us reflect and rejoice on the many things God has given us. Let us Thank!
