SERMON SHORT FOR OCTOBER 4th, 2020

A CELEBRATION OF DISCIPLINE – PRAYER

Genesis 32:22-32, Luke 18:1-8

The second discipline that Foster’s book, Celebration of Discipline, deals with is prayer. Nothing draws us closer to the heart of God. Prayer is practiced in a myriad of forms – so many that Paul can exhort his readers to pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17).

To live our lives in unceasing prayer is actually more freeing that you might think. Once we understand that prayer is really being in commune with God we find that everything we do is a form of prayer.

C.S. Lewis wrote “I pray because I can’t help myself. I pray because I’m helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn’t change God. It changes me.”

This Sunday’s service will include the sacrament of holy communion served with pandemic appropriate protocols either in the church or online in your home.
