SERMON SHORT FOR October 6th

Blessed is Self-Control

Matthew.5.5,

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

             Although some may wonder if they want to inherit the earth in its current state.

            But, of course, Jesus was using these words in a creative sense. “Meek” is not that push-over wussy characteristic that gets walked on by the bigger, bullier types in the world. Jesus certainly wasn’t that himself. For Jesus, and his time and audience the word we have translated as “meek” carries more of a sense quiet, controlled, internal strength of character. Make the mistake of thinking this person as a push-over and you’re in trouble.

            This Sunday we celebrate both the sacraments of communion and baptism in the Café Church style of worship in our fellowship hall.

Lots of music, lots of food, lots of spirit.
