CHILDREN OF GOD

Children in Kathmandu
Children in Kathmandu

You have heard it many times that we are “Children of God.”  We like that term regardless of our personal age. We like to think of ourselves as “Children of God.” It gives us a warm sense of having a divine parent caring and protecting us.

But the identity comes with a responsibility, too. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” (Mt. 5:9). The news is filled with images and rhetoric of the horrors of non-peace – anger – war. As “Children of God” we are called to be the distinctively adult people who bring peace into the disturbed corners of our world.

Let us see ourselves as peacemakers: “Children of God.”

Shalom
