Jesus Manifesto

1st Corinthians 12:12–31a, Luke 4:14–21

Jesus appears in his home town and is asked to read in the synagogue. What he chooses to read, and what he says as a follow up sermon speak loads. This is his inauguration speech – his manifesto. He is here, he’s got a mission, and this is what he’s going to do.

Don’t you wish modern leaders could keep their inauguration speeches so succinct? And don’t you wish modern leaders, or even we, the little people, could profess a manifesto that reflects what Jesus called his followers to do?

When Paul writes about living out the Jesus Manifesto he puts us all in our place, and everyone in each other’s place. This quote from Ram Das came across my desktop this week and it speaks loads about us living out the Jesus Manifesto.
