SERMON SHORT FOR October 29th, 2017
Café Church
Emerging
What is church becoming? We worship a lot differently now than when we were younger. There’s fewer women’s hats and men’s ties. There’s a lot of noise and hubbub around the room. There’s flashy pictures on the wall and zippy songs being sung. What is church becoming? You may like it – you may not. But you have to admit, it’s changing.
I like to think church is emerging into something different in the same way a caterpillar emerges into a butterfly. Both stages are essential for the animal even though they are so dramatically different. It happens gradually in church – slowly and methodically – and by the time you realize what’s changing, it’s already happened.
We’d like to discuss this dynamic with our special guest, Mike Wasyluk – Emerging Generations Facilitator for the Presbytery of Waterloo-Wellington – over our relaxed setting at Café Church this week. Lots of music. Lots of refreshments. Lots of spirit.
Come along!
