Sermon Short for June 17th, 2018 – The Gospel According to Paul
Romans 8:28-39, John 13:31-35

The apostle Paul is the next step in the journey from creation to Gale Presbyterian Church 2018.

For a guy who never knew Jesus, Paul had a lot to say about him. Paul wrote the bulk of our New Testament and we have to admit that much of our Christian theology comes from him – even more so than from Christ. But that’s not necessarily good unless we take a really good critical look at what Paul wrote. His biggest work is what we call The Letter to the Romans. In this letter Paul lays down so much of his understanding of what Jesus was about and I think, to a large extent, we’ve misunderstood a lot of it.

Rather than being a list of rules and regulations to be in a new club of religious devotees, we will see that the Letter to the Romans stresses the unity of humanity and the universal love of God. We are all united in a common story, a common struggle and a common hope. There is non-judgmental love for the whole of creation.
