Sermon Short for June 3rd, 2018 – Is this a God thing?

We continue looking at the growth of the Jesus movement from the first Easter to Gale Presbyterian Church’s 150th anniversary. They’re connected.
In this week’s instalment I want to look at an early story where the whole program could have been axed if it were not for wise counsel from a perceptive sage. Gamaliel was a well-known teacher and leader of the Jewish community. He actually taught Paul. When the young church was before the Jewish council and everybody wanted to stone the upstarts Gamaliel counseled them to cool their anger. He suggested “if this undertaking is of human origin, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them – in that case you may even be found fighting against God!” (Acts 5:38, 39)
That’s wise counsel even for today. When things are confusing, can we trust that God ordained things will survive and all else will perish?
