Centre Wellington Black Committee presents
Awakened Voices Narratives
at Gale on Saturday, May 30th @ 3pm.
This commemorative program presents compelling first-person narratives inspired by the lives of notable Black settlers and freedom-seekers whose stories shaped the cultural and historical landscape of Southwestern Ontario. These include Harriet Tubman, Richard Pierpoint, and several key figures who lived directly within the historic Queen’s Bush Settlement—Ida and John Little, respected Black farming pioneers; Sophia Pooley, one of the earliest documented freedom-seekers in Upper Canada; Rev. Mabel Adeline (Addie) Aylestock, the first Black woman ordained in Canada; and Reverend Samuel H. Brown, an early spiritual leader who ministered to Black families in the region. Awakened Voices brings to life the rich and often untold stories of iconic Canadian Black figures through poetry, songs and story telling.
