SERMON SHORT FOR AUG. 16th, 2020

GOOD – VERY, VERY GOOD

Genesis 1: 24-31, Acts 17:22-31, Colossians 1:15-23

Day Six of the creation story; it is a very busy day for God as he moves toward the completion of all things. A lot has to be crammed in here. And this portion of the story takes up more space in the text than any other day. I guess because it is Day Six where the most important creatures come into being – you and me.

I celebrate the last few words of this story. I want us to meditate and pray and rejoice and find our meaning in the last few words – “God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.” Not just simply “good” this time, but “very good.”

There can certainly be a lot of things that are not good in this creation. We stress over these if we focus on them. Or we can find ourselves “in God’s image” when we look for and rejoice in what God sees when he completes his creation. It is very good.

As co-creators we are going to keep that up.
