SERMON SHORT FOR JULY 5th, 2020

For the Beauty

Genesis 1:1 – 2:9

For this summer we will be looking into what a wonderful world it is. Our focus is our creation myth – the stories recorded for us in Genesis Chapters 1 & 2. If you pay close attention to that whole section you will notice two stories with significant variations. This is our cue to see these as not perfect, historical accounts of verifiable events but rather imaginative representations of a way to make sense of an unfathomable truth.

I believe that when we grasp this truth about these words we free them from their archaic and primitive mythological fairy tale status to their true value as divine scripture, “inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:16-17) Scripture is supposed to make us good for every good work.
