Remember the Homeless Immigrant

I pity the poor immigrant

In Deuteronomy we experience the earliest records of our religion community. They are setting out some rules and forms that will govern how they live. Very early on, as described in the 26th chapter they are establishing thankfulness and giving back as integral to who we are as a people. And it is couched in memory. We remember when we were hard done by. We rejoice that we are blessed. We bring our first fruits to God to show how thankful we really are.

“A wandering Aramean was my ancestor; he went down into Egypt and lived there as an alien,”

We come from a refugee stock. Remember that.
