Sermon Short for May 10th, 2020

Luke 10:25-37, Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Mother’s Day or Christian Family Sunday. They come together in my mind. It’s all about relationship – like God. We are created to be in relationship with God and with each other.

For many people, the relationship with mother is the most powerful connection they have. For many that relationship is flawed.

But we are church. And church is all about relationship. For some that is a strong relationship. For many their church relationship is flawed, even broken. But for this Sunday we’re going to celebrate the good relationship that is sought and shared in our community.

In a good mother-child relationship we can depend on support, nurture and protection. In the good Christian family that same dynamic is what makes it strong; able to weather the storms and troubles of the world. We need that now, more than ever.

And who is our family? Jesus tells it in his parable of the Good Samaritan.

            We are family.
