Tell me the stories of Jesus – Jesus heals?
Isaiah 40:21-31, Mark 1:29-39
Jesus heals. That’s the simple message from the gospel reading today. Jesus was really into miracle healing. So if you’re sick, maybe even if you’re dying, pray to Jesus because we know Jesus heals. That should be all there is to it.
But it isn’t, is it? We prayed fervently for many of our loved ones and healing did not come. Indeed, for some, death came. As a matter of fact, even those healed in the Bible stories eventually were not healed and eventual died.
When Jesus heals, it is not simply fixing eyes, limbs or skin conditions. When Jesus heals he “casts out demons.” When Jesus heals he heals our spirit, and puts us in a right relationship with God and with others. Those who are weak are made strong with complete humanity; mind, body and soul. We have to know that such health is not limited in God’s mind to these weak, frail, decaying tenements on earth but that our health is a whole picture of Body, Mind and Soul.
