Sermon Short for January 20th, 2019
Partial to the Low
Luke 6:17-26, Proverbs 31:1-9
We say the history books are written by those who won the wars. The things that run our world have always been controlled by the minuscule minority of those at the top. But the huge majority of humanity is at the bottom, down low. It’s the people down low that make the world go round. But it is the comfortable people at the top who control things.
Oddly, though, our holy scriptures are predominantly written by the low people, with a partiality toward the poor, the oppressed the disadvantaged. Over the coming weeks we will strive to understand our scriptures and our faith as founded upon a preference for the low people of the world – they are the ones for whom Christ came to save.
This week we focus on a campaign to help the disadvantaged in our community. Ms. Leigh-Anne Quinn of Woolwich Community Services will visit to discuss the Coldest Night of the Year event. Many of our Gale community will be participating in the CNOY walk on February 23rd. Check it out here.
